When I heard about the Maruti Suzuki Omni making a comeback, I felt a sudden rush of nostalgia. For many of us, the Omni wasn’t just a van, it was part of everyday life. I still remember seeing one outside my school gate, packed with kids, or watching families load up their bags before heading off on long trips. Now, if the rumors are true, that same familiar shape might return, but with a very different personality.
A Safer and Smarter Omni
One thing is for sure, the old flat-nosed Omni wouldn’t pass today’s safety norms. The talk is that the 2025 Omni will be built on a much stronger platform, that will clear Bharat NCAP crash tests. Features like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, seatbelt reminders, and rear parking sensors are expected. Just thinking about those features makes me realize how far we have come from the bare-bones Omni we grew up with.
Fresh Look, Familiar Feel
From what I have seen in speculative renders, Maruti seems to want to keep the Omni’s boxy, space-friendly shape intact. But the front fascia looks sharper, with a new grille and headlamps that make it look more 2025 than 1985. Inside, it won’t be the no-frills cabin we knew, a dual-tone dashboard, digital cluster and even a basic touchscreen could finally make the Omni feel like a proper family car.
Engine Options for Today’s Roads
The old 796cc engine was legendary but underpowered. This time the Omni could get Maruti’s 1.2L K-Series petrol engine, that sounds like a huge leap forward. And knowing Maruti’s focus, a CNG variant is almost a given. There’s even talk of an electric option, but that feels like a longer shot right now.
Expected Price and Launch Timeline
If Maruti brings the Omni back, it will have to stay true to its roots, affordable and practical. Reports suggest a price between ₹4.5 lakh and ₹6.5 lakh (ex-showroom), that’s well within the reach of Indian families. The buzz is that it will launch in late 2025 or early 2026.I like that.
