KTM is gearing up for something big this festive season. The much awaited KTM RC 160 is finally going to be launched in October 2025 and for someone like me who has followed every RC launch over the years, this one feels special. The RC 160 isn’t just another addition to the lineup, it’s the brand’s move to take the fight straight to Yamaha’s R15 V4, a bike that has ruled the streets for far too long.
Design and First Impressions
When I first saw the spy shots of the RC 160, I couldn’t help but imagine that sharp fairing slicing through the air on an open highway. KTM keeps the aggressive design alive with its track-ready appeal. Just looking at it, you can almost hear the crisp note of that single cylinder engine waiting to be revved.
Engine and Performance
Under the skin sits a 164.2cc liquid cooled engine from the new 160 Duke. With 19 PS of power and 15.5 Nm of torque, it promises a performance edge that’s rare in the 160cc segment. Add to that a 6 speed gearbox and slipper clutch and you’re looking at a bike built not just for city runs but also for weekend rides where you push it a little harder.
Hardware and Features
What excites me is the fact that KTM hasn’t cut corners. The RC 160 is expected to share the RC 200’s steel trellis frame, WP suspension and dual channel ABS. Add to that full LED lighting, digital LCD console with KTM Connect and you’re getting features that make it feel premium the moment you sit on it.
Competition and Price
Of course KTM knows exactly who they’re going after. The Yamaha R15 V4 still sets the benchmark but with an expected price of around ₹1.9 lakh ex-showroom, the RC 160 comes in swinging. It also has to fend off the Pulsar RS 200 and Suzuki Gixxer SF 250 but if KTM gets the balance of performance and price right, this could be the next big hit in the faired sports bike segment. Can’t wait to sit on it.
