2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid SUV expected to launch in India with hybrid powertrain

I still remember seeing the Honda CR-V on Indian roads back in the day. It was a stunner with its design and drive. Now the 2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid has started rolling out globally and there’s buzz that it might just come back here.

Honda hasn’t confirmed it officially but company announcements suggest three new models by FY 2026-27 and the CR-V is on that list. If it does come back it will be in hybrid form, in sync with India’s push for cleaner mobility and hybrid tax benefits.

What’s New in the 2026 CR-V Hybrid?

The SUV is powered by a 2.0L Atkinson-cycle petrol engine with two electric motors, producing 204 hp and 247 lb-ft of torque. Globally it delivers up to 40 mpg combined (≈17 kmpl), in India it could be 20–25 kmpl.

It also gets three screens:

  • 9-inch infotainment with wireless CarPlay/Android Auto
  • 10.2-inch digital driver’s display
  • Optional head-up display

Variants abroad include the rugged TrailSport trim with higher ground clearance and all-terrain tyres, and the premium Sport Touring Hybrid with Bose audio and panoramic moonroof. For India a 7-seater version could be considered given the demand.

Expected Price and Launch in India

Speculation is that it will launch around late 2025 or early 2026, possibly at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2026. Prices could start at ₹32–35 lakh (ex-showroom) and top trims could go up to ₹40 lakh, competing with Hyundai Tucson, Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian.

Why It Matters for India

As Bharat NCAP rules tighten, SUVs lead the market and hybrids enjoy tax perks, the 2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid could mark a strong comeback for Honda in the premium SUV segment.

Global Specs

  • Hybrid 2.0L petrol engine + dual motors, 204 hp
  • AWD and FWD options
  • 40 mpg (≈17 kmpl), up to 25 kmpl in India* ADAS, adaptive cruise, lane-keeping
  • Moonroof, ventilated seats, wireless charging

If they get the pricing and localization correct it will be a strong contender.
